Atelier Lapaetau is a transcultural lab for experimental art, founded in 2022 between Bogotá and Berlin. We create collaboratively, process-oriented, and non-hierarchically. We combine queer feminism and decoloniality. We work with various aesthetic forms, including experimental cinema, performance, performing arts, and visual arts. We bring together expertise in directing, performance, dramaturgy, and production.
Atelier Lapaetau ist ein transkulturelles Labor für experimentelle Kunst, dass sich 2022 zwischen Bogotá und Berlin gegründet hat. Wir kreieren kollaborativ, prozessorientiert und nicht hierarchisch. Wir verbinden Queer-Feminismus und Dekolonialität. Wir arbeiten mit verschiedenen ästhetischen Ausdrucksformen, darunter experimentelles Kino, Performance, darstellende Kunst und bildende Kunst. Interdisciplinary Artist
Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau
Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau is a German-Colombian interdisciplinary artist whose work spans video art, installation, experimental cinema, and performance, with a focus on decolonial subjectivities and queer cultures. In recent years, Simon(e) has focused on inventing myths and utopias inspired by rural and urban cultures in Latin America, challenging hegemonic discourses. In this way, Simon(e) has created interdisciplinary works and collaborations with artists from historically marginalized communities, such as the Emberá & Wayúu, sexually dissident non-binary bodies (including themselves), and rebellious LatinX trans women.
Simon(e) studied Media Art at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) and Film at the International Film and Television School (EICTV) in Cuba. Their films and videos have premiered and been awarded at renowned festivals and exhibitions such as documenta14, Cannes Directors Fortnight, New Directors/New Films at MoMa & Lincoln Center, the Berlin Biennale, the BFI London, and the New York Film Festival. Notable awards and recognitions include the 3sat Emerging Talent Award at Oberhausen International Short Film Festival 2022, the Norman Award at the Stuttgarter Filmwinter 2023, the Best Director Award at the Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival Colombia (FICCI) 2018, and a nomination for the Queer Palm at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight 2022.
Simon(e) has presented their performances and video installations at prestigious museums, theaters, and art spaces such as the Wexner Center of the Arts, HKW, Martin Gropius Bau, Kasseler Kunstverein, nGbK, Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Shedhalle Zurich, HAU, the Sharjah Art Foundation, and the Cinemateca de Bogotá. In 2023, Simon(e) held their first solo exhibition at the Berlinische Galerie—Museum of Modern Art.
Since 2022, Simon(e) is co-founder and artistic director of the transcultural lab for experimental art, Atelier Lapaetau.

Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau ist eine:r deutsch-kolumbianische:r interdisziplinäre:r Künstler:in, dessen:deren Werk Videokunst, Installation, experimentelles Kino und Performance umfasst, mit einem Schwerpunkt auf dekolonialen Subjektivitäten und queeren Kulturen. Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau es une artista interdisciplinar colombo-alemane cuya obra abarca videoarte, instalación, cine experimental y performance, con un enfoque en subjetividades decoloniales y culturas queer. En los últimos años, Simon(e) se ha centrado en inventar mitos y utopías inspirados en culturas rurales y urbanas de Latinoamérica, cuestionando los discursos hegemónicos. De esta manera, ha creado obras interdisciplinarias y colaboraciones con artistas de comunidades históricamente invisibilizadas, como las Emberá y Wayúu, cuerpos disidentes sexuales no binarios (incluyéndose a sí misme) y mujeres trans Latinx rebeldes.
Simon(e) estudió Artes Mediales en la Academia de las Artes Mediales Colonia (KHM – Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln) y Cine en la Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV) de Cuba. Dramaturg
Laura Paetau
Laura Paetau works on queer-feminist and post-migrant topics and aesthetics. She studied Sociology at Humboldt University of Berlin and Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin, specializing in feminist theories. She has extensive experience in activist collectives and political self-organization. Her thesis, Feminisms and the New Political Generation, a study on feminist activism in Berlin, was published in 2009 by Verlag Westfälisches Dampfboot. She has taught courses on feminist interventions in pop music and culture at various institutes of both Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt University of Berlin. As a scholarship recipient of the International Graduate School Entre-Espacios – Zwischen Räumen at the Latin American Institute of the Freie Universität Berlin, she also conducted research at the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied theories on racism and belonging under john a. powell.
The theory became practice in Berlin’s independent scene. Together with the (heidy) collective, she curated the exhibition What is queer today is not queer tomorrow at the New Society for Visual Arts (nGbK). Her dramaturgical debut was the production Frutas Afrodisíacas (2016) at Studio Я, Maxim Gorki Theater, and Ballhaus Naunynstraße, where she continued collaborating on further projects. From 2019 to 2024, she worked first as a resident and then as a freelance dramaturg at Schauspielhaus Zürich. There, she developed works with directors such as Leonie Böhm, Nicolas Stemann, Suna Gürler, Trajal Harrell, Yana Ross, and Joana Tischkau. Together with Thelma Buabeng, she curated the comedy format Security.
Laura has many years of experience in diversity-oriented organizational development. Since 2024, she has been co-director of FAIRSTAGE, a Berlin model project focused on creating discrimination-free and equitable working conditions for employees in publicly funded theaters.
Since 2022, Laura is co-founder of the transcultural lab for experimental art, Atelier Lapaetau.

Laura Paetau arbeitet zu queer-feministischen und postmigrantischen Themen und Ästhetiken. Sie studierte Soziologie an der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Politikwissenschaften an der Freien Universität Berlin und vertiefte sich besonders in feministische Theorien. Sie ist erfahren in aktivistischen Kollektiven und politischer Selbstorganisation. Ihre Diplomarbeit, Feminismen und Neue Politische Generation, eine Untersuchung über feministischen Aktivismus in Berlin, wurde 2009 beim Verlag Westfälisches Dampfboot veröffentlicht. Sie lehrte zu feministischen Interventionen in Pop-Musik und -Kultur an diversen Instituten der Freien Universität Berlin und Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. Sie war Stipendiatin des Internationalen Graduiertenkollegs Entre-Espacios – Zwischen Räumen am Lateinamerika-Institut der Freien Universität Berlin und verbrachte einen Forschungsaufenthalt an der University of California, Berkeley. Bei john a. powell studierte sie Theorien über Rassismus und Zugehörigkeiten.
Aus Theorie wurde Praxis, in der Freien Szene Berlins. Gemeinsam mit dem (heidy) Kollektiv kuratierte sie die Ausstellung What is queer today is not queer tomorrow in der neuen Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst (nGbK). Ihre erste Arbeit als Dramaturgin war die Produktion Frutas Afrodisíacas (2016) am Studio Я, Maxim Gorki Theater und Ballhaus Naunynstraße, an dem auch weitere Arbeiten entstanden. Von 2019 bis 2024 war sie zunächst feste und dann freie Dramaturgin am Schauspielhaus Zürich. Hier entwickelte sie Arbeiten mit den Regisseur:innen Leonie Böhm, Nicolas Stemann, Suna Gürler, Trajal Harrell, Yana Ross und Joana Tischkau. Laura hat jahrelange Erfahrung in diversitätsorientierter Organisationsentwicklung. Seit 2024 ist sie Co-Leiterin von FAIRSTAGE, das Berliner Modellprojekt für diskriminierungsfreie und gute Arbeitsbedingungen für Mitarbeiter:innen an öffentlich finanzierten Berliner Theatern.
Seit 2022 ist Laura Mitbegründer:in des transkulturelles Labors für experimentelle Kunst, Atelier Lapaetau.

Laura Paetau
Laura Paetau trabaja en torno a temáticas y estéticas queer-feministas y postmigranteS. Estudió Sociología en la Universidad Humboldt de Berlín y Ciencias Políticas en la Freie Universität Berlín, especializándose en teorías feministas. Tiene amplia experiencia en colectivos activistas y en la autoorganización política. Su tesis de grado, Feminismos y la Nueva Generación Política, un estudio sobre el activismo feminista en Berlín, fue publicada en 2009 por la editorial Westfälisches Dampfboot. Ha impartido clases sobre intervenciones feministas en la música y cultura pop en varios institutos de la Freie Universität Berlín y de la Universidad Humboldt de Berlín. Como becaria del Colegio Internacional de Posgrado Entre-Espacios – Zwischen Räumen en el Instituto de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Freie Universität Berlín, también realizó una estancia de investigación en la Universidad de California, Berkeley, donde estudió teorías sobre racismo y pertenencia bajo la dirección de john a. powell.

Lucía González García
Lucía González García is a cultural manager, producer, documentary filmmaker, and scriptwriter with a versatile career in interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of art, culture, and social justice. She holds an MA in Scriptwriting from the University of Seville, Spain, and a BA in Comparative Literature and Film Studies from the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany.
For over five years, she worked as a project manager at the Goethe-Institut Bogotá, where she coordinated projects of international outreach in visual and performing arts, film, and social activism. In this role, she collaborated with renowned artists and curators, including Halim Badawi, Carlos Motta, Mapa Teatro, Carlos María Romero aka Atabey Mamasita, Moriah Evans, and Lucrecia Martel. Broadening her scope in cultural management, she served as lead producer of the 2022 Cineposium, the annual meeting of the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI). She also served as a project manager at the Colombian Film Commission (Proimágenes Colombia) and was Head of Guest Office at the Bogotá Audiovisual Market (BAM). In 2023, Lucía took over the coordination of Eurocine and in 2024 she directed the festival’s 30th anniversary edition.
Her documentaries mainly address issues related to conservation and sustainability, as well as memory and post-conflict (the aftermath of the armed conflict in Colombia). She is one of the filmmakers behind the second and third seasons of the documentary TV-Series Heroes to Animal Rescue, which was nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Entertainment Production at the 36th India Catalina Awards.
Since 2022, she has been managing the transcultural lab for experimental art, Atelier Lapaetau, overseeing the distribution and circulation of Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau’s award-winning works, including the critically acclaimed film Aribada.

Lucía González García ist Kulturmanagerin, Produzentin, Dokumentarfilmerin und Drehbuchautorin mit einer vielseitigen Laufbahn in interdisziplinären Projekten an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Kultur und social justice. Sie verfügt über einen MA in Drehbuchschreiben der Universität Sevilla sowie einen BA in Vergleichender Literaturwissenschaft und Filmwissenschaft der Freien Universität Berlin.
Über fünf Jahre lang war sie als Projektmanagerin am Goethe-Institut Bogotá tätig, wo sie Projekte von internationaler Reichweite in den Bereichen bildende und darstellende Kunst, Film und sozialem Aktivismus koordinierte. In dieser Rolle arbeitete sie mit renommierten Künstler:innen und Kurator:innen wie Halim Badawi, Carlos Motta, Mapa Teatro, Carlos María Romero aka Atabey Mamasita, Moriah Evans und Lucrecia Martel zusammen. Ihre Tätigkeit im Bereich Kulturmanagement erweiterte sie als leitende Produzentin des Cineposiums 2022, dem jährlichen Treffen der Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI). Lucía González García
Lucía González García es gestora cultural, productora, documentalista y guionista con una trayectoria versátil en proyectos interdisciplinarios que convergen en la intersección entre el arte, la cultura y la justicia social. Es licenciada en Literatura Comparada y Cinematografía de la Freie Universität Berlín, Alemania, y tiene una maestría en Guion de la Universidad de Sevilla, España.
Durante más de cinco años trabajó como coordinadora de proyectos en el Goethe-Institut Bogotá, donde estuvo a cargo de proyectos de alcance internacional en artes visuales y escénicas, cine y activismo social. En este rol, colaboró con reconocidos artistas y curadores como Halim Badawi, Carlos Motta, Mapa Teatro, Carlos María Romero aka Atabey Mamasita, Moriah Evans y Lucrecia Martel. Amplió su experiencia en gestión cultural como Productora General del Cineposium 2022, el encuentro anual de la Asociación Internacional de Comisionados de Cine (AFCI). También fue coordinadora de proyectos en la Comisión Fílmica Colombiana (Proimágenes Colombia) y Jefe de invitados en el Bogotá Audiovisual Market (BAM).
