The Dance of Dead Souls: World Premiere at Shedhalle Zurich
Opening with a Hi-Intensity-Phase from September 13th to 15th and running until November 3rd, we will premiere the multimedia installation The Dance of Dead Souls by Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau & Elizabeth Pirela González at Shedhalle Zurich as part of ProtoZone16: Hallucinogenesis, curated by Thea Reifler and Phila Bergmann.
ProtoZone16: Hallucinogenesis
The ProtoZone is an exhibition format for process-based art inspired by queer-feminist science fiction. For ProtoZone16, Shedhalle Zurich invited a group of artists to explore the unknown, unspoken, and non-material elements that drive artistic creation. These factors could be described as "intuition", "hunches", "dreams", "vibes" or "hallucinations". The artists are encouraged to explore how these deeply felt yet often hidden intentions emerge through artworks.

Die multimediale Installation The Dance of Dead Souls von Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau & Elizabeth Pirela González wird im Rahmen von ProtoZone16: Hallucinogenesis vom 13. bis 15. September als Hi-Intensity-Phase eröffnet und läuft bis zum 3. November 2024 in der Shedhalle Zürich. Die Ausstellung wird von Thea Reifler und Phila Bergmann kuratiert.
ProtoZone16: Hallucinogenesis
ProtoZone ist ein Ausstellungsformat für prozessbasierte Kunst, inspiriert von queerer-feministischer Science-Fiction. Für ProtoZone16 lud die Shedhalle Zürich eine Gruppe von Künstler:innen ein, die unbekannten, unausgesprochenen und nicht-materiellen Elemente zu erforschen, die die künstlerische Schöpfung antreiben. Diese Faktoren könnten als „Intuition“, „Ahnungen“, „Träume“, „Vibes“ oder „Halluzinationen“ beschrieben werden. Die Künstlerinnen werden ermutigt zu erforschen, wie diese tief empfundenen, aber oft verborgenen Motive durch Kunstwerke hervortreten.

Con una fase de alta intensidad del 13 al 15 de septiembre y en exhibición hasta el 3 de noviembre, estrenaremos la instalación multimedia La danza de almas muertas de Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau y Elizabeth Pirela González en Shedhalle Zúrich, en el marco de ProtoZone16: Hallucinogenesis, comisariada por Thea Reifler y Phila Bergmann.

La ProtoZone es un formato de exposición de arte basado en procesos e inspirado en la ciencia ficción queer-feminista. Para ProtoZone16, Shedhalle Zúrich invitó a un grupo de artistas a explorar los elementos desconocidos, no expresados y no materiales que impulsan la creación artística. Estos factores podrían describirse como “intuición”, “corazonadas”, “sueños”, “vibras” o “alucinaciones”. Se anima a los artistas a explorar cómo estos elementos, profundamente sentidos pero a menudo ocultos, emergen a través de las obras de arte.

Elizabeth Pirela González
is an interdisciplinary Wayuu artist from the Epieyuu clan, known for her ability to merge the cultural traditions of her people with contemporary artistic expressions. Her work includes experimental film, literature, and academic articles with a decolonial approach. Through her work, she explores and challenges dominant narratives, offering a multidisciplinary perspective that unites the past, present, and future in the experiences and histories of her people.

ist eine interdisziplinäre Wayuu-Künstlerin vom Epieyuu Clan, die für ihre Fähigkeit bekannt ist, die kulturellen Traditionen ihrer indigenen Community mit zeitgenössischen künstlerischen Ausdrucksformen zu verschmelzen. Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau
is a German-Colombian interdisciplinary artist whose work spans video art, installations, experimental cinema, and performance, with a focus on decolonial themes and queer cultures. Simon(e) has focused on inventing myths and utopias inspired by rural and urban cultures in Colombia that move away from hegemonic discourses; creating interdisciplinary artworks and collaborations with racialized artists and communities that have been historically made invisible.
